The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) is seeking a qualified web development and digital strategy partner to redevelop Caribbeantravel.com, a consumer-facing travel platform that showcases destinations, accommodations, and tourism services across the Caribbean.
Originally launched in 2008, the platform once attracted nearly 2 million visitors annually, but traffic declined significantly due to limited updates and evolving SEO algorithms. The redevelopment aims to transform Caribbeantravel.com into a modern, high-performing tourism marketing platform that inspires travel, drives direct bookings to member properties, and strengthens the value of CHTA membership.
The new website will highlight destinations across 32 Caribbean tourism markets while balancing travel inspiration with practical trip-planning tools.
Scope of Work (Requirements)
The selected vendor will design, develop, and implement a scalable, SEO-optimized tourism platform with the following capabilities:
Website Design & Development
- Redevelop the platform using WordPress or another widely supported open-source CMS
- Mobile-first responsive design
- Scalable architecture with role-based permissions
- Secure platform with SSL, malware monitoring, and automated backups
- Annual security audit capability
Destination & Member Directory Features
The site will include a structured directory showcasing:
- Hotels and resorts
- Tourism service providers
- National hotel and tourism associations
- Partner organizations
- Each listing must include:
- Logo and images
- Business profile
- Contact information and website link
- Booking referral links
Additional functionality includes:
- Tiered listing visibility (Member, Featured Member, Non-Member Premium)
- Advanced search and filtering
- Destination overview pages
- Interactive regional map
- Top attractions and travel experiences per destination
Booking & Referral Integration
The platform must support:
- Direct referral links to member booking engines
- Booking click-through tracking and reporting
- Optional booking widgets or integrations
- Reporting dashboards for referral performance
The site will not operate as a full online travel agency (OTA) but instead drive traffic to member booking systems.
Content & Marketing Features
Required components include:
- Editorial content sections (blogs, press releases, destination features)
- Newsletter signup and data capture
- Social media feed integrations
- AI chatbot functionality
- Ad placement framework for future revenue generation
SEO & Analytics
The new platform must include:
- Technical SEO best practices from launch
- Structured data and schema markup
- XML sitemap automation
- Core Web Vitals optimization
- Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console integration
- Conversion tracking for bookings, leads, and newsletter signups
- A 6-month post-launch SEO roadmap
Member Self-Management Portal
Members must have dashboard access to:
